Siyambonga's artistic practice is an ongoing exploration of the human experience, shaped by personal memory, emotion, and the complexities of everyday life. Working primarily with acrylic paint and mixed media, he examines themes of single motherhood, resilience, sacrifice, and identity. His work is deeply rooted in his own experience of growing up without a father figure, using personal history as a starting point to reflect on broader social realities. Drawing inspiration from the rural landscapes and mountains of the Eastern Cape, South Africa, Siyambonga depicts women performing physically demanding work while men observe. These scenes challenge traditional gender roles and invite viewers to reflect on the historical, cultural, and economic forces that continue to shape gender dynamics in South Africa. A distinctive feature of his work is the use of symbolic figures with dice-shaped heads. The dice represent the uncertainty, sacrifices, risks, and resilience that many women face while raising families with little or no support. Through carefully chosen colours and numbers, each dice carries its own symbolic meaning, adding layers of narrative and interpretation to every painting. Rather than relying heavily on photographic references, Siyambonga creates from imagination, allowing memory, emotion, and intuition to guide his compositions. His figures are fictional, yet they embody experiences that resonate across many communities. His growing artistic career has earned notable recognition. In 2026, he was selected as a Top 10 finalist for the Blessing Ngobeni Art Prize (BNAP), one of South Africa's respected contemporary art awards. His work has also been exhibited at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), where he presented his paintings to collectors and the broader public, further expanding the reach of his practice.
